work, esrg and democracy

For some godawful reason every man and his EA at work seems to have found some work that desperately needs doing before they go on leave at the end of the day. Which is my roundabout way of apologising for being so lax in the blogging department this week.

I promise next week, that even if it’s the CEO demanding a report super-quick-pronto I will smile my calm, enigmatic smile and reply “sorry, I have a blog to write”.

Democracy

Ah yes, that. It was the state election in Victoria last week. I voted for ***** - that’s none of your business. Bracksy, a man so boring I can’t even think of an adjective to describe him other than “not-Kennett” which isn’t even strictly an adjective, romped home.

While I’m broadly sympathetic to the left-ish side of politics, I can’t really feel to enthused about the result. And I’ll tell you why.

In the couple of months leading up to the election, the local Liberal candidate (I live in a previously labor seat) could be seen almost once a week, handing out cards and chatting to all and sundry at the train station in the morning.

He may be Liberal fascist scum, and bald at that, but at least he was liberal, bald fascist scum who seemed to want to win. The labor candidate didn’t even show up! There were a couple of flunkies there the day before the election, but that’s it. Was she (the candidate) too scared to explain the tolls backflip? Did she just assume having her photo taken with Bracksy was enough? Did she just assume no-one pays any attention to anything other than the news?

I think it’s dissapointing when politicians don’t take democracy seriously - it happens all the time. Just think of the 150,000 people who marched in Melbourne against the Iraq war only to be ignored. What more do we have to do?

Okay, rant over.

I’m planning to head up Warby way this Sunday morning with the ESRG (which is also the sound I make when I stagger home after a long run, funnily enough).

One Response to “work, esrg and democracy”

  1. Coulda been worse, coulda been liberal fascist scum with hair plugs.

Enjoy the warby trail, it’s worth the early start. I’ll be making do with 60kms on the exercise bike then a spin along Warby on the real bike on the PM
