vegie runs

“Vegie run” - the term is fairly new to me. I gather it refers to a sort of training run you might do where you just amble along at around snail-pace, making any nearby tortoises feel good about themselves and never lifting the heart rate above “induced-coma”. (I don’t have a Garmin, but I would imagine that’s one of the settings).

Vegie runs: the athletic equivalent of acute brain-damage. It makes sense, in a vaguely offensive way.

I had one of those today - with AM - 9km around the city. We sleep-walked over to Docklands, crossed over the river via that twirly footbridge and then pretty much straight back again when the old Capital City Trail abruptly stopped.

Still, a nice way to start the day. Of course, it was all down-hill from there. I only left my desk twice, both times to go to meetings. I can endure dull, and I don’t mind busy, but dull AND busy is hard to take.

That being said, 20km into the Maroondah Dam run I’ll probably wish I was back at my desk, with the radio from the next cubicle playing (just audible) “dooooon’t… hold back. Is there anybody out there… feeling something?”

God I hate that song. Has there ever been a more inane lyric? I feel like saying “Yes, I’m out there. Yes I’m feeling something. I feel throttling you.”

  1. aaaaaah mr jh.. you do make me laugh

  2. I think, that compared to you, all my runs are probably vegie runs :-)

  3. I’m not sure what would be worse out of our offices - mine is like a library and you feel the need to whisper when on the phone. VERY quiet. The other half had to come in with me yesterday and he commented about how quiet it was - thing is, that was a noisy morning in comparison to usual! No radios in our office and most people have their mobile phones set to silent and the desk phone on the lowest volume… I’ve never worked anywhere like it before - I’m used to shouting across the office because it’s too much effort to walk over and ask something. Most bizarre.

  4. I have the only radio at work which means I get to listen to what ever I want :-)

  5. I’m sure your workmates are very grateful, Em.

  6. I love veggie runs, you’re doing something but not really, but you are…….

  7. don’t you go dissing the vegie jog. vegie jogging is particularly good if you’re recuperating from injury, or if you want to focus on refining your technique - and if you’re vegie jogging proper, you’re supposed to do it on your tippy toes, akin to sprint technique. of course, for the fitness-challenged like me, vegie jogging is all that i’m capable of!

  8. You never mentioned anything about tippy toes… That would make it “ballerina running” wouldn’t it?

  9. or poncing. :p

  10. poncing? why didn’t you say? I do THAT all the time.
