camelback is go

I feel I can safely say my experiment with on-board hydration, vis a vis using a Camelback, was a great success.
Incidentally, does one “use” a Camelback or “wear” it? Perhaps “carry”? “Drink”? It’s a tricky one.
Moving on: I had a long-ish run planned for today, and I managed it all-right, thanks to my new friend [...]

new computer

I’m back from a dog of a run - yes, another one - this time from Chandler Highway back home. (Mapmyrun.com) It worked out slightly longer than planned - around 25k - due to the Koornung trail’s mule-headed insistence on taking the longest possible route from A to B.
I’m not sure it will go [...]

shorts

Occasionally I have a good run of results, running-wise, perhaps a PB here or there or just a good couple of training sessions. It doesn’t take much before I’m going about calling myself a marathon runner, puffing my chest up with pride, looking down on mere “joggers” and generally making an arse of myself.
If there’s [...]

masochism

Yesterday was bookended by two examples of mild masochism on my behalf. In the morning, 90 minutes sweating up a storm running in a great long circle in the furnace-like early summer heat. Then at night, 90 minutes spent sitting through the great debate between our glorious leader and his twin from the other side [...]

Simone Warne

A late, but extremely competitive, entry in the 2007 head-slappingly-stupid comments awards. This one’s from Simone Warne/Callahan on the occasion of discovering her ex-husband has cheated on her again:
I’m angry that I was fooled again … I can’t believe he’s cheated on me again.
If that’s true, she’s possibly the only person in the western world [...]

run home

The other day I said something about:
I love the feeling I could run home from work without any special effort (it’s around 30km)
Never let it be said I talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. I always walk the walk, it’s my trademark.
In that spirit, today, in fact in 2 hours time, I will [...]

long run

On balance, the couple of days since I last posted have been pretty good.
On the one hand, the 5,000 metre final on Sunday night at Osaka were a bit of a farce: running the first 4k at a snail’s pace then letting the sprinters take it home. And what happened to Mottram?
On the other hand, [...]

doctor, doctor

While I have no beef with doctors and nurses as people - I’m sure they’re perfectly nice - I can’t say I’ve ever enjoyed talking to one of them, at least in a professional capacity. For one thing, if they have a flaw as a group, it’s a tendency towards being patronising. I sometimes am [...]
